A wandering pilgrim comes back from Jerusalem with grim news: Idolishche the gluttonous giant has seized Tsar-grad, and no one dares stand against him — so the old Cossack Ilya Muromets trades his hero's dress for the pilgrim's bast shoes and staff, walks straight into the giant's palace, and answers the giant's boasting about how much he can eat with a story about a cow.
