Pushkin — The Tale of Tsar Saltan, Part Two

Disclosure: this performance is narrated by AI-generated voices.

Shrunk to a mosquito, Prince Gvidon rides the merchants' ship to his father's court — and hears a wonder traded for a wonder: first the squirrel cracking golden nuts beneath the fir, then thirty-three knights rising out of the sea, and at last, from spiteful lips, one tale too many — of a princess with a star upon her brow. Three times the prince flies home across the water; then the Swan keeps her greatest secret no longer, and Tsar Saltan, kept from his son by three pairs of lying eyes, builds a fleet at last.

The Tale of Tsar Saltan (Сказка о царе Салтане), Part Two — by Alexander Pushkin, in a new English verse translation made for this show, read aloud over a gentle instrumental bed. Part Two completes the tale.

Pushkin.
