Myths of the Cherokee — Part 13 of 22 (Tsul'kalu', the Slant-eyed Giant · Kana'sta, the Lost Settlement · The Man Who Married the Thunder's Sister)

Disclosure: this performance is narrated by AI-generated voices.

The Tsul'kalu' cycle. The Slant-eyed giant courts the widow's daughter with deer and whole trees for firewood, is driven off by one forbidden word, and carries his family into Tsuneguñ'yi — the children's footprints still in the rock; the seven-day fast at Kanuga fails on a stranger's war cry, and the voice says, 'Now you can never see me.' The strangers from Pilot Knob take the whole town of Kana'sta into the mountain, where houses stand ready still. Tsuwe'nahi the lazy hunter visits the mountain people, sits on a turtle, and dances where a lost man can only pant 'Ku! Ku!' And under Tallulah Falls, the Thunder People's cave: water that is grass, seats that are turtles, a uktena for a horse — and the price of telling.
