Faroese Folk Tales — Part 3: Guttormur, the Lawman's Son · Kolvur and the Sheep Thieves · Rasmus of Oyri · Daniel's Fishing Ground · Anfinnur and His Sons · The Lawman's Daughter · The Scarlet Jacket

Disclosure: this performance is narrated by AI-generated voices.

Seven more tales from the Faroe Islands, from Jakob Jakobsen's Faroese Folk Legends and Fairy Tales (1898–1901), in a fresh translation made for KacheliTV.

A lawman's son carries a silver cup of coins to a king on one outstretched arm — and a queen's kindness turns his errand into a fortune. Kolvur catches sheep thieves with a pot of boiling broth and a soundly locked door. Rasmus of Oyri finds a small hairy fish in a boat that is no fish at all, and a silver cup no one can explain. Daniel marks out a fishing ground that no other boat can find. Anfinnur's eight sons quarrel over a drifted chest of fine cloth — and a mantle fit for a lord's lady undoes them all. A lawman's daughter hides in a turf stack while a French man-of-war anchors below her father's farm. And a shepherd who borrows a scarlet jacket with gold buttons must run the race of his life across the hills of Sondum, with its owner striding after him.
