Disclosure: this performance is narrated by AI-generated voices.

Fifteen tales from Madagascar, collected by Charles Renel and published in Paris in 1910 in his Contes de Madagascar — heard in English in a fresh translation made for this series, from Tanala, Sakalava, Betsimisaraka, Tsimihety and Antankarana storytellers.

A leper steals a gourd and cannot put it down. Two companions argue for two hours over thirty piastres they do not have. A goat turns out to be a man, an ox and a dog all at once. A snake lends his eyes and never gets them back. A guinea fowl goes to a funeral that is not one — and a rat, having cured a chief's son, chooses the strangest reward ever granted.
